Webster Desperate For Brewers Future

websterThe 29-year-old full-back admitted last month he was “knocked back” after failing to win a contract for the first time in his career.

However, after mulling over his options during a family holiday, Webster is poised to rise to a challenge put to him by manager Paul Peschisolido after setting his sights on reaching the landmark of 500 appearances for the club.

The Brewers boss left the defender off his retained list but offered him the chance to join in pre-season training and prove he is worth a new deal.

Webster said: “I’ve been speaking to a few different people, but my heart lies at Burton and my mindset is to go back and prove to the gaffer that I can still do a job for him.

“I had problems fitness-wise last summer, but I’m determined this year I’ll be in better shape than I’ve ever been.”
Peschisolido has questioned Webster’s fitness levels and hunger after the fullback struggled to hold down a regular place in his side last season.

The Brewers boss said: “The ball is firmly in Aaron’s court at the moment. He is potentially a wonderful talent but I need to see that he has the desire needed to perform in League Two.

“I need to know that everybody is prepared to give what it takes to be successful in this league, which is why the jury is still out for me as far as Aaron is concerned.”
Webster admitted: “I’ve always tended to regard the close season as the chance to chill out after 10 months of football.

“But I know I need to be in much better shape this time if I’m going to prove I can still do a decent job for Burton.

“I’ve never wanted to leave Burton because, as I’ve said before, it’s been a massive part of my life.” Webster has so far made 494 appearances, putting him fifth on the all-time list behind Darren Stride (646), Phil Annable (567), Nigel Simms (535) and Nick Goodwin (508).
