Burton Albion 2-1 Gillingham- Match Report

Late Tom Naylor winner puts Burton on the brink of promotion

Tom Naylor's injury-time header pushed Burton Albion to the brink of promotion after a 2-1 win over Gillingham at the Pirelli Stadium.

The midfielder rose majestically at the back post to meet Mark Duffy's cross and send the home fans into delirium.

Nigel Clough's side had endured a frustrating second half having seen Gillingham's Cody McDonald head home Bradley Dack's 49th-minute corner to cancel out Lucas Akins' opener just before the break.

The Burton striker stretched out a leg to convert Duffy's low ball in on 44 minutes to put Albion in front after a first half they had dominated.

Gillingham hung in and having had to make two substitutions in the first quarter of an hour they showed plenty of attacking intent after half time as their hopes of making the play-offs looked to be fading.

The Kent side must now rely on others slipping up to keep their promotion dream alive, while the Brewers have everything in their own hands with just one game to go.
