Burton Albion 2-0 Hereford- Match Report

Brewers set up Cod Army clash

Burton overcame Skrill Premier outfit Hereford 2-0 to clinch a second round trip to League Two rivals Fleetwood.

Adam McGurk gave Burton the lead with his seventh of the season and victory was sealed by youngster Matty Palmer's first career goal late on.

The Bulls quickly found themselves under pressure and had a lucky escape when Phil Edwards' overhead kick crashed against the crossbar in the sixth minute.

The visitors recovered to enjoy a spell of probing pressure before the unmarked McGurk wasted a chance to give Burton the lead when he shot wastefully high from 12 yards in the 35th minute.

The Northern Irishman quickly atoned by striding onto Chris Hussey's corner kick and steering a lovely left-foot shot high into a corner of the net two minutes later.

With Hereford briefly under siege, McGurk found the sidenetting as another chance beckoned.

The visitors began the second half with substitute keeper Daniel Lloyd-Weston on in place of the injured Rhys Evans.

But it was opposite number Dean Lyness who found himself tested by a low drive from Frankie Artus, who also went close with a 25-yard effort in the 72nd minute.

Hereford's brave fight was finally ended when Palmer lashed home a left-foot shot from 20 yards in the 84th minute.
