Cody McDonald clinched a seventh successive draw on the road for promotion hopefuls Gillingham in a 1-1 draw at Burton`s Pirelli Stadium.

Sam Winnall gave Burton a first-half lead, but a Gillingham fightback was rewarded when McDonald grabbed his 20th of the campaign.

Defender Matthew Lawrence had a header cleared off the line as the Gills threatened to take control - only for the visitors to be rocked in the 27th minute.

Winnall got a firm header to Andy Corbett's cross and ball found its way inside the far post despite goalkeeper Alan Julian getting a hand to it.

Julian was almost beaten for a second time after a Jacques Maghoma shot crept under his body before Scott Malone denied Andy Barcham the equaliser with a superb goalline clearance in the 38th minute.

Burton found themselves under pressure after the break and Adam Legzdins had to make a full-length save after Adebayo Akinfenwa swivelled for a right-foot shot in the 55th minute.

Winnall went close to doubling Burton's lead in an isolated attack before Curtis Weston drove a good chance wide for the visitors.

Gillingham's pressure paid off when McDonald levelled the scores with a neat turn and 12-yard shot in the 78th minute.
