Burton Albion's John McGrathThe midfielder took over the captain’s armband on a permanent basis at the Pirelli Stadium when previous incumbent Guy Branston joined League Two rivals Torquay United at the end of January, having deputised during the central defender’s periods of suspension earlier in the season.

Now McGrath, who has another year left on his current Brewers deal, is determined to retain that role for the start of Albion’s second season in League Two.

The former Aston Villa midfielder, who turned 30 just under two weeks ago, had been surprised to be handed the skipper’s armband for the first time at Bournemouth on September 26, but is now looking forward to hopefully doing the same next season.
